Continental specializes primarily in the manufacture of tires and braking systems. However, the company is also among the leading manufacturers of sophisticated electronic components – ranging from control units, sensors, and infotainment systems to comfort features such as massage seat systems.

Challenge | A New Product for Mercedes-Daimler

The plant in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm faced a major challenge – to launch the production of a completely new product in Continental’s portfolio. Specifically, pneumatic massage seat systems for Mercedes-Daimler. This was a technologically demanding product that required:

• The design of new manufacturing processes

• The development of testing methods

• High quality and reliability in serial production

Solution | From Prototype to Serial Production

Our cooperation covered the complete development of the technology – from initial testing to implementation into serial production. Key steps of the solution:

• Laboratory testing and design of manufacturing procedures

• Development and verification of functional assembly prototypes

• Transfer of acquired knowledge into serial technology A significant role was played by integrating special welding processes with Bosch TS5 conveyor systems, which ensured stable production quality and the required throughput. For the assembly and testing of control units, we utilized our forming process know-how. Specialized vacuum and overpressure measurement systems were used for testing, which is crucial for the correct operation of pneumatic components.

Results | Stable Production and 100% Quality Control

The project resulted in a comprehensive manufacturing and testing solution including:

• A production line for hose sub-assemblies

• Standalone workstations for component assembly

• A production line for massage assemblies

• Testing technology with 100% production inspection The deployed technology thus enables long-term stable production while maintaining high quality standards.
